Welcome to Yoga International!
A place where you can escape from a stressful life, to
recharge, rejuvenate, and balance your system
International Yoga Experience
Yoga International is a joyful, accessible and vibrant
blend of many styles and traditions, a place where students from all nations
can come together to participate in the Yoga experience. Warmth and simplicity
are the keys to our approach to Yoga practice.
Benefits of Yoga Practice
Many people believe that Yoga is some kind of religious
cult or philosophical system. Yoga, however, is something else. The goal
of Yoga is the ability to live in full harmony with yourself and your
surroundings. Yoga is the science of self-realization and self-perfection;
it seeks to bring out the best in every person, the joy that is at the
core of every being.
There are a lot of reasons to start practicing Yoga:
Some people use Yoga as a method for staying in good physical shape-a
way to keep their bodies flexible and good-looking.
Others look for relief from illness, aches, and pains.
Recent medical studies demonstrate that the systematic practice of Savasana,
the Yogic position of relaxation, lowers blood pressure.
Systematic practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing
exercises) consistently alleviates exhaustion and brings relief of various
ailments such as arthritis, arteriosclerosis, varicose veins, heart disease,
and headaches.
Whatever motivation you have for beginning a Yoga practice,
the benefits of your experience will be much greater than those listed
above. Yoga can be simply an instrument (e.g., to lose weight, or to
stop smoking). Or it can be something much greater.
Let's not be afraid to experience Yoga. Yoga demands
very little from us, but what it gives in return is immeasurable.
Methods
At the core of Yoga International are Hatha Yoga and Tantra
Yoga, but Yoga International draws on several styles:
The flowing Viniyoga style, where great attention is given to the coordination
of breath and movement. 'Breath is life!' Attention to the breath
takes precedence over a rigid adherence to form. Viniyoga is a system
advocated by Professor Krishnamacharya and his son, T.K.V. Desikachar.
The Iyengar method, which encourages a precise understanding of one's
physical alignment as a means of unveiling one's inherent connection with
all things. The Iyengar method encourages the use of props, such as blocks,
straps, and cushions, for beginners and individuals with physical impediments.
The Sivananda tradition, which simplifies the broad Yoga heritage
to five basic rules which are easily incorporated into daily life, ensuring
radiant health and longevity: correct relaxation, correct breathing, correct
exercise, correct diet, and positive thought and meditation.
Ayurveda, the Science of Longevity, the ancient holistic Indian healing
art, has also been a great inspiration for Yoga International. Ayurveda
is the yoga of rebalancing your current contributions to your body's unique
and harmonious constitution. Kasia studied Ayurveda in New York under
Dr. Scott Gerson.
Hatha and Tantra Yoga
Hatha Yoga is not an inert system of knowledge and
instructions. It is kept alive by the living yogis and yoginis who transmit
their knowledge and wisdom directly to their students (this is called
shakti). In this sense Yoga International is a continuing expression
of the Yoga tradition, as it is the fruit of Kasia's experience on the
path of Yoga.
Tantra Yoga involves the expansion of one's self to
the fullest, in order to become liberated from limits and boundaries.
"Just as a drop of sea water
contains all of the qualities of the ocean,
so too does a human being contain within it
all of the mysteries and powers of the universe."
